Our new home in France

While looking for a house to rent, somewhere to base ourselves while we hunt for the right property, we found the perfect house in the perfect spot -and with the help of the lovely people at Cle Rouge Immobilier in Duras it is ours! This blog is primarily for our friends and family to follow the ups and downs of the adventures. However if we don't know you, I hope you'll enjoy the story too, and that one day you may consider booking into our lovely home as a paying guest - you'll be made very welcome!

House Sold!

We are another step closer to our dream! On Monday we completed on the sale of our Worcester house. Many thanks to Craig and Julian at Reeds Rains in Worcester, for their expert handling of our sale.
Someone is looking after us as the euro/sterling exchange rate is working in our favour and some of that money was winging its way to our French account by the end of the afternoon.
So we are now all set to sign on the dotted line for the French house.....sooner or later! We are still hoping that it will be in the second week of September. We are eager to get started on the next part of the project, the renovation of the barn, addition of en-suites, decorating and the establishment of the garden. Perhaps a bit of a breather first is a good idea.......

Moving Day

Yesterday we waved goodbye to our belongings, superbly loaded (we hope!) at top speed and efficiency by James and Mike from Hunts International, fuelled only by frequent tea breaks. It’s all going to be stored until we’re ready to have it delivered to France – hopefully soon, although no firm date yet.

The house is now clean and empty of everything except happy memories. Thank you to all our children, family and friends who helped to make all those memories.
So we spend our third night in the flat, thankfully the bed is comfortable and pubs with food are within walking distance!
This morning we are expecting the engineer from BT to fit us a new phone line, the first step on the way to broadband. Until then, we are having to manage with sharing ONE mobile internet dongle, for as long as two weeks. Potentially more difficult than sharing a small flat!

Good news day...2

The cake has been iced! The French Notaire has all the documents signed and as we speak they are crawling their way towards us by snail mail. So a good day all round! We're definitely on our way to Savignac de Duras. One bottle of champagne down.....

Good news day!

Our solicitors have exchanged contracts today! So all on schedule to move out next week, just before completion. The removal company are confirmed and we're mostly packed and ready to go. Some good news from the Notaire in Duras would be the icing on the cake. We're still waiting........

Progress!

We don't seem to be anywhere nearer to actually moving to France - still no news from the Notaire about the next set of documents that need to be signed by the seller. Has he or hasn't he?
But....today we took delivery of my new cooker. This is the cooker that will travel with us to France and I can't wait to use it! Will it make a difference to my cooking? As it is I can't even unwrap it to have a good look as it needs to stay protected for its journey and time in storage. Let's hope it works when we get it there!

Moving at last

Our flat in Upton-Upon-Severn
We are now working towards a date! At least a date to move out of the Worcester house. We plan to be in our little rented flat in Upton-upon-Severn by the weekend, with the removals company arriving next week to collect the rest of our belongings to go into storage. All dependent upon actually exchanging contracts in the next few days of course! No news yet on the French house contract but we're assured there's no problem. So fingers are still crossed!
