Our new home in France

While looking for a house to rent, somewhere to base ourselves while we hunt for the right property, we found the perfect house in the perfect spot -and with the help of the lovely people at Cle Rouge Immobilier in Duras it is ours! This blog is primarily for our friends and family to follow the ups and downs of the adventures. However if we don't know you, I hope you'll enjoy the story too, and that one day you may consider booking into our lovely home as a paying guest - you'll be made very welcome!

The story so far......

We put our Worcester house on the market at Easter this year, with a plan to rent a property in the south-west of France while we looked for a permanent home there. Having put together a ‘wish list’ for our French house, we emailed it to several estate agents in our chosen area – the south Dordogne, Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne.

The house sold within two weeks, so at the beginning of June we decided to fly to Bergerac and spend a week talking to estate agents, to make sure they knew what we were looking for, and to find a house to rent. We spoke to three agents, set up appointments and booked two or three nights in three different chambres d’hôtes, (French B&Bs) to do a bit more research while we were there. Thanks to our hosts at Chateau LavanauDomaine de Faures, and Beau Sejour all of whom made us very welcome and gave us lots of welcome advice.

Despite telling the agents and ourselves that we were NOT going to buy a house during this trip, we fell in love with a house that was just perfect – it ticked all our boxes. We put in an offer immediately, which after some negotiation through those lovely people at Cle Rouge Immobilier was accepted.

We are now at the point, some two months later, our original buyers having pulled out a month ago, of exchanging contracts on our Worcester house and the French contract becoming set in stone. It’s been a long couple of months but fingers crossed we are almost there.
